Deadline Extended for ADA Compliance

The Department of Justice has extended the date by which public pools and spas need to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Balancing Tips For Your Chlorine Pool

Pick Your Sanitizer.

• Chlorine tablets (3” the most common), chlorine sticks or granular
• Be sure to buy a good chlorine. Be careful with that “Big Box Outlet” stuff that has lots of fillers and will disolve fast costing you lots more money.
• Maintain a chlorine level of 1 – 3 ppm

Balance Your CYA (Cyanuric acid)

• Balance your CYA to 40ppm
• Balancing this to 40ppm will prevent chlorine from being destroyed by the sun.
• Certain new studies are showing that CYA really needs to be maintained at a level no higher than 40 ppm allowing chlorine to perform optimally (high levels of CYA contribute to TDS or Total Dissolved Solids which "interfere" with chlorine activity).

When To Shock Your Pool

• If you have done research or talked to people you have probably heard several different ways to do this. We will try to keep it simple and short for you and in a matter you can understand.
• First you will need a test kit or test strips that will test both free and combined (Total) chlorine.
• If your combined (Total) chlorine is higher than your free chlorine you need to shock your pool.
• In order to turn that combined chlorine back into free chlorine you will have to add 10 times the amount of free chlorine.
• Then allow your chlorine to drop back to 1 – 3 ppm prior to swimming.

Balancing Your PH

• A proper ph level is just as important as chlorine
• You should maintain your ph between 7.2 – 7.6 the higher your ph is the less effective your chlorine become.
• Anything below 7.2 and your water becomes very corrosive.
